Assalamualaikum semua,
Saya nak tukar tajuk perbualan dan nak tukar bahasa perbualan. Maklumlah Bahasa inggeris saya tidak mencapai  tahap tuan-tuan sekelian.
Azizi, apa maksud anda dengan pertakatan tetuan yang anda gunakan itu?
Saya kurang arif, biasanya tetuan digunakan oleh syarikat guaman.
Saya juga nak buka ruang perbincangan dengan satu tajuk baru, iaitu“Apa pendapat anda semua tentang pengajaran dan pembelajaran sains dan matematik dalam Bahasa inggeris semula. Seperti kita dulu-dulu. Apa buruk dan baiknya?”

Waalaikumussalam Tetuan Izan,

Janganlah sedih dan berasa rendah diri dengan tahap Bahasa Inggeris tuan. Kita harus bersyukur dengan takat kebolehan kita dan yang lebih penting anugerah yang Allah s.w.t, telah berikan.
Kalau tak salah, saya yang rendah tahap penguasaan dalam Bahasa Inggeris dan Bahasa Melayu, Tetuan bermaksud "Messrs" dalam istilah pengunaan bermaksud "Tuan-Tuan yang dihormati", (tolong aku Munsyi Dewan nak boh aku)..ini menunjukkan saya amat menghormati kawan-kawan saya terutama yang pernah satu sekolah dengan saya, cuma saya juga kurang faham maksud yang tuan inginkan, iaitu "pertakatan tetuan" , adakah tuan maksudkan tahap atau darjat seseorang ? Kalau itu yang tuan maksudkan, tak dapek den menolong torangkan..
Tajuk yang tuan ingin cadangkan :
“Apa pendapat anda semua tentang pengajaran dan pembelajaran sains dan matematik dalam Bahasa inggeris semula. Seperti kita dulu-dulu. Apa buruk dan baiknya?”
lagi la den tak dapek menolong, kalau bab ni , den ingat elok ekau jumpo Ex-YB kita dan boleh terangkan Bahasa Inggeris "semula" tu , macam kata Wan Zulkifli (Edisi Siasat NTV7)lah .. "apa kah jadahnya" ? (Jangan marah ya, tidak lah selucah "dr.jekyl and hyde" dan tidak di C.C.kan kepada guru-guru ..wassalam.

Maksud engkau kalau “tikus-tikus” jadi tetikus, kalau labah-labah jadi lelabah. Ada juga logic engkau tu. Bolehlah diguna pakai bagi maksud bukan rasmi.

Izan. Aku pernah buat program di DBP about two years ago, somethng to do with their Merit exams or something.
Anyway I asked the participants, what have they done in the last 20 years or so since BM was the language of choice untuk pertingkatkan martabat BM? What we see is a lot of cedok from english and other languages. DBP saya they have an electronic dictionary of over 2 million words, but only they know about it. Orang ramai kenal DBP from the annual warehouse sales of outdated text books.
We should be prihatin that current knowledge is in the annals in English, French, German, Chinese and other languages, despite the fact that Nusantara ini has the largest number of people, rumpun Melayu is the largest collection of "sama" language speakers. Tapi ilmu itu tak ada pada kita, jadi kenalah belajar bahasa lain dulu, cedok ilmunya barulah boleh bercakap pasal meningkatkan martabat BM.
Needless to say, the participants at the course did not like my challenge asking them what have they done for the language, yang kita boleh nampak. I got very bad ratings for the course, and was not invited back.
My two cents worth. Maybe you can do something about it from within. As i said to the participants, tak kan lah DBP dah ketandusan idea bagi meningkatkan martabat BM.
BTW, what is the officail defintion of Glokal?

Eemmm bab ni boleh le mencelah ... nak mencelah pasal harga teh tarik vs harga pergi minum teh tarik I'm not qualified kerana tak pergi ....
Zahari, I think you know that sometimes people in authority does not want to change because change sometimes lead to the authority being questioned as to the relevancy ... thus its better to maintain the status quo and retain that facade of authority ...
I agree with what you say ... its the knowledge thats important ... if we have the knowledge people will be lining up to learn our language, macam time Ibn Khaldun or Ibn Sinar alKhawarizmi setakat yg dgr dalam IKIM.fm lah). But unfortunately now we have to learn English (and lately Japanese) because we have got to go where the knowledge is. The language is just a tool, knowledge is the essence ... so trying to glorify the tool without having the essence is just like glorifying the hammer but pukul paku pun bengkok (speaking from personal experience lah).

Looks like everyone is too busy discussing teh tarik vs travelling
costs and language ethics to take up this issue.
Ajit ... I do not want to take up the issue of "corrupt" education system because thats an open secret with any Government agencies holding authority.
Majid ... I wolud agree that its more on an environmental issue ... I tend to believe that the education system in so-call western countries do tend to develop more "thinking" graduates ... small case in point, in most UK Universities you can find all 3 major political parties (Tory, Labour and ... whats the other one? lupa dah) have their club offices side-by-side in the Student Union buildings, thus enhancing open thinking and discussion ... thus they are more able to deal with the wheeling and dealing in the big corporations.
To me the academic subjects being taught are basically the same the world over but what makes the difference is the thinking process, the problem solving and diplomatic skills developed OUTSIDE the lecture halls ... will we ever see UMNO, PAS and DAP univeristy club offices
side-by-side in OUR IPTAs student union building, I wonder (as an example only ... I'm not involved with any political party, if you must know).
Now there is a move by the Government to encouraged students to be involved more in co-currculum activities ... but that is still within a small defined scope ... but at least the recognition of the importance of individual development outside the formal classroom or lecture hall is starting to be officially recognised .. but still some way to go
before its on par with what the overseas-trained students get the benefit of.
